Applications and Energy Saving Analysis of Refrigerated Dryers and Desiccant Dryers

Compressed air serves all industries. Air compressors output unclean air carrying solids, water, oil, bacteria and harmful gases. These pollutants hurt safety, product quality and productivity, so factories must dry and purify compressed air.
Compressed air holds liquid and vapor water. Simple mechanical separation (cyclones, filters) removes liquid water. Cooling or adsorption strips vapor water — this process is drying, handled by dryers. Two main dryer types exist per working principles: refrigerated dryers (cold air dryers) and adsorption dryers.

Refrigerated air dryers typically have a pressure dew point of 3-10℃. Water usually solidifies below 0℃, meaning it freezes, so refrigerated air dryers cannot achieve drying below 0℃.

Desiccant dryers, on the other hand, use adsorption to separate water vapor from compressed air, thus achieving drying. When compressed air passes through a desiccant dryer, the adsorbent (usually silica gel, activated alumina, or molecular sieves) in the adsorption chamber adsorbs water vapor from the compressed air, thus drying the air. The pressure dew point is typically -20 to -70℃. The switching between adsorption and regeneration is achieved by utilizing the different amounts of water vapor adsorbed by the adsorbent at different pressures or temperatures.

When a low pressure dew point of compressed air is required, desiccant dryers are currently almost the only option.

Reducing energy consumption and practicing energy conservation and emission reduction are fundamental national policies for energy development, and also the direction that Borin has always strived for. Borin has always valued innovation and focused on the research and development and manufacturing of energy-saving and environmentally friendly products. Its desiccant dryer series products have been tested by the market and have gained a large number of loyal users.
