Caution
Focus on regenerated exhaust
A heatless dryer uses some dried compressed air for regeneration, so the regeneration tower normally vents to the atmosphere during operation.
However, if you notice:
- Excessive venting
- Abnormally long venting
- Continuous venting
- Heavy venting after tower switching
Check the pneumatic valves, control system, and regeneration air path/throttle orifice. Otherwise, excessive air consumption may occur and the outlet dew point may fail to meet requirements.
Regularly check the adsorbent
Common adsorbents include activated alumina, molecular sieves, and silica gel.
Check for:
Pulverization, settling, clumping, or oil contamination
Adsorbent carryover downstream
Expired service life
Oil contamination and liquid water can significantly shorten adsorbent life. If you find white/gray powder downstream, check for adsorbent carryover.
Filters must not be ignored
Dryers typically use pre- and post-filters. The pre-filter protects the adsorbent, while the post-filter prevents adsorbent dust from entering downstream equipment.
Regularly check:
Filter pressure differential
Automatic drain operation
Filter element blockage
Drain leaks or malfunctions
A clogged filter increases pressure drop, while a faulty drain can introduce liquid water into the dryer.
