Regulations for the Inspection of Pressure Vessels in Compressed Air Dryers

Within the extensive network of national air compressor dealers, nearly every player regards themselves as industry experts. However, they fail to notice that many of these self-proclaimed specialists act unprofessionally. For instance, they sell air dryers failing pressure vessel inspection standards to clients, exposing customers to severe safety hazards.

So how do we avoid these risks?
Start with the sales phase: select qualified manufacturers and identify pressure equipment that requires certification. When placing orders, actively require manufacturers to supply products compliant with official standards.
Per national inspection rules, pressure equipment needs certification if it satisfies all three criteria: working pressure ≥ 0.1 MPa, volume ≥ 0.03 m³, and internal diameter (or maximum cross-sectional dimension for non-circular vessels) ≥ 150 mm.
Therefore, when distributors select post-processing equipment manufacturers, verify whether suppliers satisfy these requirements:
  1. Materials
All pressure-bearing components including pressure vessels and piping adopt high-strength, corrosion-resistant special materials to endure high pressure and harsh operating environments, guaranteeing stable and safe industrial operation. Manufacturers must audit all material suppliers, obtain material certificates for key pressure-bearing parts, and only stock materials after passing inspection.

  2. Manufacturing Processes
Production of all pressure-bearing components strictly complies with the pressure vessel quality assurance system. All welding work requires qualified welding procedure specifications, and only certified welders can perform welding operations.
  3. Testing
Every procedure implements three-level inspections: self-inspection, mutual inspection and official quality inspection, with complete construction records retained. Critical checks such as non-destructive testing and pressure testing set mandatory hold points. Work can only advance to the next stage upon passing tests. Manufacturers commission third-party institutions to conduct non-destructive testing for credible quality control.
  4. Official Supervision
Manufacturers must arrange statutory supervision inspection in accordance with national standards for all pressure-bearing vessels and piping that meet supervision scope criteria.
